Camp Canary 2026 Sessions:

Week 6, July 27- 31: Fashion Week AGES 5-10  During Fashion Week, our House of Canary Designers will examine all things STYLE.  Designers will cut and assemble outfits for a wooden mannequin using fabrics, yarns, paints, and more- a Camp Canary crowd pleaser!  We’ll consider artists like Nick Cave and Mickalene Thomas as we examine body confidence, wearable sculpture, and art through the lens of fashion.


Week 7, August 3- 7 : Woodshop!  AGES 4-10 Design, hammer, drill, construct! During this week at Camp Canary, artists will be woodworkers as we explore the possibilities in this natural material.  Guided by our respect for trees, we’ll utilize wood scraps, found materials, and developmentally appropriate tools to engage our artists  in sculptural projects with inventive vibes. Woodworkers unite! 


Week 8, August 10- 14: Gamer Designers AGES 6-10 During this week at Camp Canary, your camper will put on their game face!  Artists will explore and design mazes on paper and then create our own jumbo labyrinth.  We’ll be inspired by classic games like Candy Land & Sorry as we conceptualize, design, and build our own unique and colorful board games and more!

Week 9, August 17- 21: Puppeteers AGES 4-9 Campers become storytellers, directors, and puppeteers as they bring their creations to life! Throughout the week, your camper will develop a character and create their own puppet and props.  We will also explore a variety of styles from finger puppets to shadow puppets. Campers will work collaboratively to build sets, imagine dialogue, and perform a show at the end of our week together.


Week 10, August 24- 28: Little Architects (Montclair only) AGES 5-10 During this week campers will become architects.  We’ll explore architecture from around the world and BUILD!  First we'll make blue prints and build model treehouses from recycled and wooden materials. Then we'll switch gears to the city and examine skyscrapers from around the world. Inspired by these structures, we’ll reach new heights as we design and assemble our own skyscrapers.  


Week 1, June 22- June 26 : Little Architects (South Orange only) AGES 5-10 During this week campers will become architects.  We’ll explore architecture from around the world and BUILD!  First we'll make blue prints and build model treehouses from recycled and wooden materials. Then we'll switch gears to the city and examine skyscrapers from around the world. Inspired by these structures, we’ll reach new heights as we design and assemble our own skyscrapers.  


Week 2, June 29- July 2: Artsy Astronauts  AGES 4-8 This week we’ll explore the final frontier. We’ll build rocket ships, create our own constellations, paper mache a collaborative solar system and turn our studio into a collaborative space installation. It’ll be out of this world!

Week 3, July 6-10: Art Gallery Week  AGES 4-10 This week we will become artists and gallerists. Campers will explore observational drawing and painting techniques as well as experimental painting with rich materials.  Throughout our week, we’ll discuss the function of galleries and museums, how to curate an art show, and art market basics.  At the end of our week, we will set up our own gallery for families’ viewing pleasure.


Week 4, July 13- 17: Sweet Treats AGES 4- 9 Are confectioners artists? Can artists be chefs? Of course! In this week of Sweet Treats, campers will create their own  pastry chef personas and make sweet treat themed artworks using a variety of art materials and techniques.  Plenty of child- led, open ended play and exploration in this delicious and delightful week - and your kiddos will eat it up!

Week 5, July 20- 24: Myths & Magical Beings  AGES 4- 9 Camp this week will be inspired by Myths and Folklore from around the world. Storytelling will guide us as our artists make shadow puppet stories inspired by Indonesian puppetry, mythological creature assemblage inspired by Greek mythology, maps, and potions and more.  Sure to be an enchanting week!
